Baton WordPress theme: Displaying Posts with Baton & Conductor

With the release of our new feature-packed theme, Baton Pro, we would like to show you how it can be used with some of our other products. Today we will show you how to display posts using Baton and Conductor.

Displaying Posts on the Homepage

With the mixture of Baton and Conductor we can create a “Recent Posts” section on our Front Page using a Conductor widget. Below is an example of a Front Page showing recent posts using a Baton Hero widget and a Conductor widget.

How to Replicate

1. From your WordPress Dashboard navigate to Appearance > Customize.
2. With your Front Page in the Preview section of the Customizer navigate to Widgets > Front Page in the left sidebar of the Customizer.
3. Click on the button labeled Add a Widget, and add a Note widget.
4. In your Note widget settings change the Display Layout to Baton Hero 1.
5. Once the Preview section of the Customizer updates add whatever text you would like to the Note widget, and add a background image to the widget. For more information about editing a Baton Hero widget, visit here.
6. Click on the button labeled Add a Widget, and add a Conductor widget.
7. Under the Content Settings change the dropdowns so that the widget says “Select many Post(s) to display”.
8. To control how many posts are displayed edit the second to last line in the Content Settings to say ” Show (insert number of posts here) posts with leave blank per page.
9. Under the Display Settings set the Number of Columns to 1.
10. In the Display Settings under the section labeled Adjust Output Elements show or hide any portions of the post that you’d like.
11. When you are finished click on the Save & Publish button in the top-right corner of the left sidebar.

The Blog Archive

Conductor can be used to enhance your Blog Archive. With Conductor you can customize the way your content is displayed. Below is a Blog Archive that has been conducted and is displaying posts using a four column display.

How to Replicate

1. From your WordPress Dashboard navigate to Appearance > Customize.
2. In the Preview section of the Customizer navigate to your blog page.
3. With your Blog Archive in the Preview section of the Customizer navigate to Conductor Layouts in the left sidebar of the Customizer.
4. Click on the Conduct this Content Type button to conduct the Blog Archive.
5. Next you want to select a Conductor layout to use. To use the layout that is used in the screenshot above click on the full width icon.
6. Use the back button of the Customizer to navigate back to the beginning of the left sidebar.
7. Navigate to Widgets in the left sidebar.
8. Choose the page content widget sidebar.
9. Click on the Add a Widget button, and add a Conductor widget.
10. Under the Content Settings change the dropdowns so that the widget says “Select many Post(s) to display”.
11. Under the Display Settings set the Number of Columns to 4.
12. In the Display Settings under the section labeled Adjust Output Elements show or hide any portions of the post that you’d like.
13. When you are finished click on the Save & Publish button in the top-right corner of the left sidebar.

Homepage Vs Blog Archive

With Conductor you can display content in many different fashions. Some of the differences can be seen between the Homepage and Blog Archive we have just created. The Homepage is a one column Conductor widget with only a select few posts. The Blog Archive has a Conductor widget with four columns, and it displays more posts. These customizations are only the beginning of Conductor’s capabilities. As shown in the “How to Replicate” sections you can use the Adjust Output Elements options to choose what you would like to display.
